What do you Recycle?

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of uSell for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

If you're trying to go a bit green-er in your life, one of the easiest ways is to recycle.  No matter how much or how little you recycle, it's obviously going to be better for the environment when you do.  We all know that recycling Paper, Plastic, Glass, etc. is widely accepted, but have you ever thought of recycling your old electronics, such as cell phones, digital cameras, mp3 players!?

Better than just recycling, there's a company out there that will help you recycle AND made money at the same time!  uSell is a great source for getting Cash for Your Cell Phones and Electronics .  If you're a bit worried about selling on Craigslist or Ebay, or don't want to deal with the hassles that come along with it, uSell is a great resource for you.

The uSell system works for you!  Check out their website and see just how much you can get for your electronics, they buy it from you {guaranteeing the best price out there or they'll pay the difference!} and then after erasing all personal data, the items will either be refurbished or recycled!  What a great program they've created!?

What electronics will you sell?

Vacation.

I had toyed with the idea of taking a week off from blogging while we go on Vacation.  Then  I decided to schedule a few posts that would go live while we were playing in the Ocean.  I've went back and forth on the decision, but someone else made it for me... kinda.

On Tuesday {can't miss my first Co-Hosting gig at Mom Blog Monday!}, another fabulous Courtney {not to be confused with Courtney, my blog designer} will be starting my Wordpress Transfer process!  So, I will be taking a week off from SEBG and will be back on Monday the 20th!

For now, Sophia, Rob, and I are...

Fluffy Fridays: Real Nappies {giveaway!}

Have a post that relates to cloth diapers?  Link it up!!

If you've been reading this blog for any amount of time... you know I love cloth diapers.  I love trying all types of them, all colors, sizes, and styles.  But, let me let you in on a little secret.  I despise prefolds.  I just do.  Well, actually I used them when Sophia was younger and plan on using them on the next baby.  I feel like they are really good when you have to change your baby so often, otherwise, you'll be using alot of Pockets during the day.

When Real Nappies contacted me about trying out their Prefold Cloth Diapers system, I was excited {who doesn't like to try new fluff!?} but at the same time, thinking in the back of my mind, "Oh no.  Prefolds on my walking, active little lady!?"

When I received the Real Nappies package, I was shocked.  They sent alot of diapers.  I was immediately impressed and realized that what they sent me, the Essentials Pack, would cloth diaper Sophia for two straight days.  This made me feel a bit more comfortable because, I'll be honest here, when I receive a diaper to review, I can only use it once every few days between washings.  It's sometimes hard to get a really good feel for a diaper, in a relatively short amount of time, to give a great review.  I did not have this problem with Real Nappies.

Sophia received the Crawler size.  These prefolds and covers are sized for up to 18 months, 17-30 lbs.  Sophia is right at 21lbs and the cover is a bit larger on her than I usually like.  This hasn't caused any problems at all, I am just used to a bit more of a snug fit.

I've used these diapers for Daytime, Nighttime, and Naptime.  We have had not one single leak at all.  The Real Nappies system is meant to be used in the Tri-Fold position, folding more in the front or back, depending on whether you have a boy or girl.  That's what makes these diapers so easy to use.  Sure, Snappi's are easy to hook {compared to pins} but when you have a wiggly, active babe like I do, Snappi's just aren't fast enough.  I love the Tri-Fold option.

Want to know something that is the ultimate selling point of Real Nappies?  They have a Two-Child Guarantee!  "You'll be able to use Real Nappies Cloth Diapers and Snug Wraps for at least two children.  Should any Real Nappies cloth diaper or diaper cover you purchase from us fail before your second child has outgrown it, we'll replace or repair the item."

What WE think about Real Nappies:  I can honestly say that I have grown to love these diapers.  They are my go-to diapers that I reach for when I'm doing diaper laundry.  Why?  Because I can keep re-using the same cover all throughout the day, while all of our other diapers are drying outside.  I have no reservations about putting them on Sophia at Naptime and I simply add in a hemp insert in the middle of the prefold for nighttime.  These prefolds are some of the softest that I've ever felt.  I also love the Real Nappies BioLiners to help keep the prefolds nice and white!  The only thing that I would like to see changed about Real Nappies is the Laundry Tabs on the Snug Wrap Covers.  The tab is too small and they often come apart during the washing routine.

Buy It:  You can purchase the Essentials Pack, that I received, for $69.00 on the Real Nappies website.  The Real Nappies Intro Pack is available for $15.00.

Win It:  One lucky So Easy Being Green reader is going to have a Fluffy Friday when they win a Real Nappies Intro Pack in their choice of size {Newborn, Infant, or Toddler}.

My New Blog Design.

Have you noticed anything different about the blog lately?  Have you read my Ba-Jillion Facebook Statuses/Tweets about my beautiful blog design?  If not, seriously... where have you been?!

SEBG recently got a huge face blog lift.  Courtney, who blogs at Not So Homemade, also dabbles in some blog design.  I use the word dabble very freely.  This lady sure knows her stuff.  She created a custom Background, Navigation Bar {don't you just love the Drop-Down style!?!}, Button, custom Social Media Buttons, and Fonts for me.  I am so in love with this look.  It's so green, so clean, so crisp, and so... me!

If you are looking for a blog designer who will listen to you, give you a unique and creative design, and not charge an outrageous amount of money {come on, we're bloggers...}, you need to contact Courtney.  She was an absolute delight to work with.  With every design element, she would email me a few concepts, after I told her my ideas, and would let me tweak them a bit.  In all honesty, I didn't tweak much because she hit it right on pretty much with everything I asked for.

One of my favorite things about Courtney and her Blog Design services is the fact that she doesn't request payment until after your entire blog design is finished!!  Crazy, huh?!  She wants to be sure that her customers are completely, 100% happy with her work.  She also never asks for your passwords.  You can feel completely safe and secure when you use Not So Handmade Blog Designs.

Courtney currently only designs for Blogger right now.  Since I loved her design style so much, I prolonged my move to Wordpress until after she was finished and am now simply switching everything over that she had designed.  If you are a Wordpress blogger, I'm sure that you all could work out designs of images that would transfer to the Wordpress platform!

Whether you're interested in a full blog design or re-design, or you're just wanting a couple of custom items to add to your blog, check out Courtney and Not So Homemade Designs.

Wordless Wednesday {almost}

I hinted around on Twitter a couple of weeks ago, but here's the *official* declaration...

It's still very early.  As of today, I'm 9 1/2 weeks!  We are ecstatic and can't wait to add another little babe to the family... and see what kind of Big Sister Sophia will be!

Toddler Learning.

Sophia is a Toddler.  Wow.  Seems like a false statement, but it's true now!

She is such a smart girl {but aren't our kids always so smart to us?}

Here's a few things she can do, on "prompt":

  • Say and Wave Bye Bye.
  • Give Kisses
  • Say:  "Mama, Dada, Papaw {sounds more like Pap Pap}, Mamaw {very similar to Mama, but more drawn out}, Go, Gone, Ball, Car {sounds like "Ca"}.
  • When you ask her what a Cow, Kitty Cat, and Lion say, she responds with their "noises".
  • She can point to Eyes, Nose, and Mouth on people, dolls, animals.  {But not her own yet!}
  • Take her Velcro closure diapers off {this skill is one that I'm not particularly proud of!}
I don't know WHO taught her to drive!
I'm sure there are a ton I'm leaving out, but basically I'm stating that I feel like Sophia is hitting her developmental milestones right on time or even a bit earlier.

With that being said, Rob thinks that we should start implementing a "Learning Time" everyday.  I don't think he's necessarily suggesting an hour long study time, but more of a 15 minute session of "ABC's, 123s, reading, singing, etc."  I tend to disagree.  I feel that Sophia and most children, learn through constant interaction.  We break out into song {whether it's ABCs or something else} randomly through the day.  We count, talk about colors and shapes as we play.

So, I'm turning to you.
How do you teach your young Toddlers?

Just a few things to share.

There's a few things that I would like to share with all of you today!

  • First, I am so happy to have each and everyone of you following my blog from Mom Blog Monday!  It means so much to me that you take the time out of your day to read a bit of what I have to say... and enjoy entering great giveaways!  {I'm not naive... I know the giveaways are one of the funnest parts!}
  • My new design is *almost* finished!  I can't wait to share it with you all... I'm in love!  Once it's finished, I'll start the transition to Wordpress.  It will all be unveiled at once {if all goes as planned}!  What can you expect from the new So Easy Being Green?  Nothing really different... just much, much prettier!  My blog designer worked miracles and finished!  How do you like it?!?  I'm in LOVE!  Bear with me while I fine tune all of the pages and re-write some of my original page ideas!
  • I appreciated every.single.comment {and personal emails} about my Mama Bear post.  I really struggled with whether to blog about the experience or not.  I also struggled with whether I made the right decisions and actions on that day.  Your stories and words lifted me up and made me come to terms with the experience and move forward instead of dwelling on the negative aspect of the day.  Thank you!

Lastly... I have to share this iPhone snapshot of our local newspaper.  Our town has a "Cruise-In" type antique car show once a month during the Summer.  It's a fun time to enjoy the cars, our downtown square, and fellowshipping with neighbors and friends.  Guess who made the newspaper in her cutey birthday outfit {I knew we would get alot of use out of this cute outfit!} while driving one of our friend's cars?

Miss Sophia, of course!

Mama Bear.

So I've hinted at the not-so-great-start to Sophia's Birthday Party.  It's time to tell the story.

But, I'm not going to tell it the way I originally planned.  I just typed out the entire story and... deleted it.  I let the bitterness and anger take over me again, the same way it did that day, and it's just not healthy.  So, instead of that happening again, I'll give you the short version... in a much happier tone.

We had rented a Park Pavilion for Sophia's party.  When we arrived to start decorating the Pavilion, there was another Birthday party going on.  In the beginning, my father politely asked if they had rented the Pavilion and the people replied that they had not.  He explained to them that we had, months in advance and told them politely that they would have to leave.

They refused.

What followed was negative, angry, and bitter.  I lost my cool and am pretty sure that I looked exactly like this...

Mama Bear.
The "party-goer's" were so ugly to me, even after showing them proof that we had rented the Pavilion.  I was so upset that my daughter's 1st Birthday might be ruined that I lost my cool.

They did finally leave, an hour later.  They made us an hour late to start decorating for Sophia's party.  It was fine, it turned out.  We had enough time to get everything together and the best part... no one at the party had a clue what had happened the hour before.  We pulled it off smoothly {on the outside, inside I was still shaking.}

I was so upset about the situation even days later.  The mother at the "party before ours" claimed that I "ruined her daughter's birthday" by making them leave.  I really worried that I had.  Until... I came to the realization that I had planned my daughter's birthday party months in advance.  I reserved that space, paid the way too much reservation fee, and sent out invitations over a month in advance.  Not that those things make me a better Mother... NO!  I don't mean that at all, but if she wanted her daughter's party to be special, like I tried to make mine, she should have done those things as well... not get mad at me for doing them.

Rob said people react in different ways when they get "caught".  They were caught using a Pavilion that they hadn't rented.  When they were confronted, they decided to fight, not flight.

So, the Mama Bear came out in me.  I know that is what it wass because I always choose "flight", but when it came to Soph's 1st Birthday, I found out, I am a Mama who will "fight" for her children.

What about you?  Has your Mama Bear instinct came out in a way that you didn't expect?
I'd love to hear your story to make me feel a bit better!

Fluffy Fridays: Fluff Stash Giveaway *closed*

Congrats to Brittany Higgs!  You are the lucky winner with Entry #45 out of 46 entries.
Winner has 48 hours to answer SEBG Winning Email before another winner is chosen.  Random.Org screenshot available upon request.

Today you're getting a preview of one of the many new things to come at So Easy Being Green.  From now on, Fridays are going to get just a bit "fluff-ier"!  On SEBG, Fridays will be dedicated solely to all things cloth diaper related.  Whether I'm simply writing a post, sharing some cloth diaper related information with you, OR even hosting a review and giveaway, it's going to be Fluffy Fridays!  It won't just be me either...  You're more than welcome to grab the button and link up!  Whether you want to just show off your stash, share some CD advice, or share a giveaway with all of us, you can participate as long as it's cloth diaper related!

Today, I have a special giveaway for those of you cloth diapering Mama's who love technology!  If you haven't heard of Fluff Stash yet, where have you been?  Facebook and Twitter have been a-buzz with this First Ever Cloth Diapering app!  I couldn't wait to get my hands on it!

Here's a rundown of exactly what you can do with Fluff Stash.
  • Take pictures of your entire stash... one diaper at a time!
  • Keep record of just how much is in your stash. {I'll admit, this can be a bit dangerous for serious fluff addicts like myself!}
  • Share your photos via Facebook/Email/Text.
  • Search your Stash by Type/Color/Size/Brand.
Screenshot of my Fluff Stash!
The only thing that I don't like about this app... I wish it would have been available sooner!  I would love to have been able to keep track of every piece of fluff I've ever owned.  Talk about facing your addiction, though!

Basically this is an app for the Mama's who just love to see their fluffy stash.  It doesn't really serve a purpose, other than that, for now.  Although, I am loving reading the Fluff Stash Facebook page to see what other Mama's would like to see come with Fluff Stash's first update.  There's talk of:  Sorting by Brands, Calculating amounts of Diapers by Brand, and maybe even a For Sale category!  How cool would this be?!  Do you have an idea of how to make Fluff Stash even better?  Share it with me and the makers... right on the Giveaway Form {and get an Extra Entry for it as well!}

Buy It:  If you haven't bought that app... what are you waiting for?  It's only 99 cents and it truly is worth it.  It's alot of fun and if you're as OCD about organization of your fluff as I am, you will definitely be entertained for a few hours!  It's available at the App Store for the iPhone and iPad.

Win It:  If you haven't bought it yet... you're in luck!  I have a code to give to one lucky So Easy Being Green reader so they can download Fluff Stash for... FREE!

This Fluffy Friday giveaway will end next Sunday, June 12th at 11:59 pm EST.  It is open to US and Canada residents only.

Wordless Wednesday {almost}

The Birthday Bash is over!  That's a bittersweet statement for me.  The giveaways were so much fun, but I'm glad to get the blog back from Miss Sophia and her Rock 'N Rollin' 50s Party!

Before we say goodbye to all the Teeny Boppin' fun for good, here are a couple of photos from her party...

All this little lady wanted to do at her Party was... SWING!  She loves, loves, loves to swing.

When we finally got her to get out of the swing to open some presents, look at her reaction to some fluff!  {This is a Walmart brand swim diaper and I'm looking forward to comparing my Bummis and Monkey Doodles Swimmi's to it.}

Birthday Bash: PowerCapes *closed*

Congrats to Jessie L!  You are the lucky winner with comment #14 out of 134 entries.  Your kiddo is going to have some a Rockin' PowerCape!
Winner has 48 hours to answer SEBG Winning Email before another winner is chosen.  Random.Org screenshot available upon request.

I can't believe that the Birthday Bash has finally come to an end.  It's been a long {and definitely fun} month and I hope you had as much of a Rock 'N Rollin' good time as Sophia and I have!  We're going to end this Bash with a Bang Punch Bam Ka-Pow!

PowerCapes is a company that, if you haven't heard of before, you're not going to forget... especially if you have a little active babe in your life!  How many of you remember tying a blanket around your neck and running through the house pretending to be SuperWoman?  I know it can't be just me!

Think of the coolest cape your child could dream of... what colors would he/she choose?  What emblem?  Initial?  That's the best part about the PowerCapes idea.  You {and your child!} get to design their very own Super Hero Cape!

Since Sophia is not quite old enough to tell me her favorite colors, I did a little guessing {and living through my 1 year old} and developed this purple beauty!

She loves Flowers, hence the flower emblem and she's obviously... Super Sophia the girl with the Purple Cape and Green Thumb!

Back to seriousness, this cape is ridiculously cute!  It's a soft, satin and is great quality.  This is not your cheaply, hand-stitched type of cape.  Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course, but PowerCapes are definite professional quality.  There is a small tab of velcro at the top of the cape, which pulls away easily enough if Sophia yanks on it, or if it was to get caught on something.

Sophia's PowerCape hangs in her "Dress Up Corner", just waiting to transform her!

PowerCapes has a great deal for So Easy Being Green readers.  Use the code "SOEASY" to receive 10% off your PowerCapes purchase!!

Why WE Love PowerCapes:  Sophia thinks she is the stuff when she's wearing this cape.  She grins that sneaky grin and you can just tell that she loves it.  I love having items that will encourage imaginative play with her!

Buy It:  Not only can you build your own custom PowerCape, you can also buy an in-stock, already design Super Hero Cape, as well as all the accessories any Super Hero might need, including a Mask, Blaster Cuffs, and a Super Hero Tshirt.
The custom PowerCapes start at $24.99.

Win It:  One super lucky So Easy Being Green reader is going to end this Birthday Bash with a Rockin' Ka-Pow by winning a custom PowerCape!!!
If you've never entered a SEBG giveaway, or need a re-fresher, visit the SEBG Giveaways page.

This giveaway will end at 11:59 pm {EST} on Tuesday, June 7th.  It is open to US residents only.

Birthday Bash: Sandbox Lane {Fuzzibunz} *closed*

Congrats to Maia G. {#66} and Sarah G. {#46}!  You are the lucky winners out of 267 entries.  You each one a Rockin' $10 GC to Sandbox Lane!
Winner has 48 hours to answer SEBG Winning Email before another winner is chosen.  Random.Org screenshot available upon request.

As the Rock 'N Rollin' Teeny Boppin' 1st Birthday Bash comes to a close, I had to share with you one more lovely cloth diaper retailer!  Sandbox Lane is a relatively new cloth diaper store but they sure started with a bang!  They carry quite a variety of cloth diaper brands {and word on the street is they're adding a few other of my *faves* soon} including: FuzziBunz, BumGenius, Flip, Econobum, Charlie Banana, Drybees, OsoCozy, and Rocky Mountain Diapers.

Alot of times when you find a new cloth diaper retailer, their selection is a little shabby... not Sandbox Lane!  Along with cloth diapers, they have Cloth Diaper Accessories, Baby Clothing, items for Mom, and much much more.  Be sure to check the site and follow their Facebook, Twitter, or Blog to stay up to date with their great specials!

Linda, from Sandbox Lane, sent Sophia a Perfect Size FuzziBunz to review.  I'm not sure how she knew this Crushed Berries color would look so stunning on Soph...

I think she likes it too!
We have FuzziBunz one-size diapers in our stash, but we hadn't tried any of their Perfect Size diapers.  To be honest, when I began to buy Sophia's stash {before she was born}, the majority of the diapers that I purchased were one-size.  I paid attention to the $$ savings and that was it.

After trying the FuzziBunz Perfect Size, I realize that we really missed out in getting that "perfect fit" when Sophia was smaller.  I love the snugness but not too tight fit that the Perfect Size gives.

Why WE Love Our Perfect Size FuzziBunz:  How could you not love this Crushed Berries color?  It's so cute on Sophia!  To be honest, I don't think Sophia likes the FuzziBunz too much because she can't undo them... she's recently learned how to pull the velcro on her other diapers.  This reason is why I LOVE the FuzziBunz so much... SNAPS!  The Perfect Size really fits her well and she has plenty of room left to grow in it.

Buy It:  You can purchase a FuzziBunz Perfect Size diaper for $17.95 on the Sandbox Lane website.

Win It:  Are you ready?!  TWO lucky So Easy Being Green readers will win a $10 GC to Sandbox Lane!  What a fluffy Rockin' prize!?

If you've never entered a SEBG giveaway, or need a re-fresher, visit the SEBG Giveaways page.

Little Whimsy Wears is a cute, creative shop that can be found on Etsy and Facebook.  The Mama behind the cute accessories, is Heather and boy is she creative!  Not only does she make the cutest little skinny flower headbands that I've ever seen {can you tell I love our Little Whimsy Wears headband?}, she also designs Bibs, Leg Warmers, Baby Shoes, Car Seat Strap Covers, and much more!

Heather sent Sophia the cutest little Golden Flower Skinny Headband.  As you know, I'm a headband stealer, apparently, so I had to try on this little beauty.  It was cute on me, but not nearly as cute as it is on her...

What I love most about this headband is the super skinny, stretchy elastic band.  It's different than any others I've ever seen and I would love to add another one to Sophia's {ever-growing} Headband Collection.

Little Whimsy Wears also sent us a pair of Car Seat Strap Covers, in the print pictured.  I had been concerned about Soph falling asleep in her car seat, because sometimes she is so tired that she can't hold her little head up.  I was hoping these covers would help with the cushion, but they don't very much.  They do, however, help protect her little neck from the straps rubbing too tightly.  The are a bit big, which is to accommodate different car seats, I'm sure, but I wish they fit her straps a bit tighter.
I love the print and Soph seems to like the little extra cushion!

Why WE Love Our Little Whimsy Wears Products:  As I admitted, I love the headband for Sophia and myself.  I love the super skinny elastic headband and the fact that it isn't too tight on her head or mine.  The Car Seat Strap Covers are fun and do help cushion Soph's little neck from her car seat straps, especially while she's sleeping.

Buy It:  You can purchase a cute, skinny Flower Headband of your own for $6.50.  The Car Seat Strap Covers start at $12.00 for a set.

Win It:  One lucky So Easy Being Green reader is going to win a $15 GC to use at the Little Whimsy Wears Etsy Shop OR Facebook Shop!

In the thirty years that have elapsed since raising our own children, we've never lost sight of the important role that books, music and video play in a child's early life. As we sought out appropriate material for our granddaughter, we were overwhelmed by the variety of products available. Only after a long and arduous journey did we stumble across the restful bedtime music we'd been seeking in the form of an exceptional music box set that offered soothing sounds for tiny ears...

Our search would have been so much easier had someone been able to guide us. That's why we created Little One Books - to help others make informed choices from among the vast amount of material available for children today.

I've shared with all of you how much Sophia loves books.  I think it is so important for us, as parents, to instill that love into our children.  Reading is such a huge part of all of our lives and if our children love to read, it will make many more activities {especially in school} a bit more enjoyable.

Little One Books is an exceptional website.  I love this site as it is super easy to navigate and find exactly what you're looking for or age-appropriate for who you're looking for.  When Little One Books gave me the opportunity to pick a book for Sophia, it was a hard decision but an easy one as well.  Hard because there were so many great titles on the site.  Easy because the website tells you exactly why you should choose a certain book.

We specialize in quality books, music, and video, for children birth through age five, and have personally reviewed and selected each and every item in our store. You'll find detailed information on why we prefer a particular product in our "Why We Chose" section of each product page.

I chose the I Stink book, based on the "Why We Chose" recommendation.  Little One Books did let me know that this book is age appropriate for a 2 year old, but I chose it for the fact that it encourages ABC recognition and the use of funny words and sounds.  I love making this book about a Garbage Truck come alive with my impressions of squealing tires and a burping truck!

Little One Books has a great deal just for So Easy Being Green readers!!!  In honor of Sophia's 1st Birthday Bash, when you purchase two books on the Little One Books website, use the code "mozart" for a free Mozart for Babies CD {Retail Value: $15.00}.

Why WE Love Little One Books:  Sophia really loves this book.  Although she doesn't yet understand her ABC's, or the use of them in a book, I'm already exposing her to words that correspond with the alphabet and the song {that she loves for me to sing over and over}.  She laughs when I make the exaggerated noises to go along with the story and I'd do anything to make her laugh!  The Little One Books website is one of the easiest product-based websites I've ever used.  I love the fact that I can choose what age I'm looking for, what product I'm interested in, and the staff at Little One Books has already done all the work for me... all I do is pick the product and enjoy it with Soph!

Buy It:  You can purchase a variety of books, musical cds, and videos on the Little One Books website.  The I Stink book is available for $17.99.

Win It:  One lucky So Easy Being Green reader is going to win a $15 GC to Little One Books!!!
